Michael Pagliuca is coordinating the photo exhibit and asked that I post this on the blog.
Please call him if you have questions.

Please bring your photos to the Sept 18 meeting.
The photo must adhere to the following:

1) Two framed photos for each member
2) Black frames are preferred
3) The frames must have a wire for hanging
4) Mark your Name and the Photo Name on the back of each photo. Not the front!!!
5) Please wrap the photos to prevent breakage and for ease of handling.
6) Photos will not be picked up after September 18.

The Peachpit Press $1,000 Question

Peachpit Press one of the leading publishers of Photography and Photoshop books is have a contest called “The $1,000 Question”. Peachpit asked a number of photographers what they would tell a friend to buy if they only had $1,000 to spend on digital photography.

Club Updates

1) We have been given the opportunity to display 12 prints in a case at the Caldwell Library during the month of September. We need three(3) 8x10's and nine(9) 5x7's. They can be framed or unframed.

Please call JoAnn if you are interested in showing something and the print size. She must have them by Labor Day weekend.

2) Essex Photo Club will have a table at the Rotary/Kiwanis Street Fair on Sunday, October 7, 12:00 to 5:00 pm on Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell.

This is an opportunity to promote the club and for club members to sell their prints. The prints can be 5x7, 8x10 or 11x14, framed or unframed. The price for the prints will be decided by members. The board voted at the June meeting that a 10% concession fee will apply for our digital projector fund.

Volunteers will be needed to set up, take down and man the booth. With enough people to help, no one should have to give more than an hour.

Any questions, please call JoAnn.

3) We still are in need of someone to chair the slide and digital entries for the New Jersey Federation competitions.

Assigned subject

Votes have been tallied. The assigned subject this year, by a close 10-9 vote, will be "motion". Your photos should be of anything that is moving in relation to its surroundings, or of anything stationary whose surroundings are moving. Your photo needs to show or portray that motion.

Examples:

1. Panning a car while it is moving.

2. A child running while others are standing still.

3. A city night scene with tail lights generating red and yellow trails.

4. A bird in flight with wings a blur.

5. A hundred birds in flight with everything a blur.

6. The silky flow of a waterfall.

There will be 4 categories this year.

1. Slides

2. Prints 8x10 - 12x18 and mounted. No heavy manipulation allowed. Size, color correction, cropping, and contrast changes are allowed.

3. Small prints from a throwaway camera.

4. Creative. Digital Projection.

All photos must be taken starting now and all club members are eligible to enter the competition.

MAN DIES IN CLIFF FALL

"A 59-year-old Georgia man fell 75 feet to his death Wednesday afternoon, when he slipped while taking photographs at the Mendocino Headlands. The Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department and members from the US Coast Guard responded to the call at around 12:25 p.m. to find David Denton face down in the Pacific Ocean. Denton was in the water from the time of the call to around 1:15 p.m., according to Chief Don Miterko, with the US Coast Guard, Noyo River Station. In response to the incident, Air Station Humboldt Bay launched a helicopter and Station Noyo River, a 47-foot-long motor lifeboat. The Mendocino Volunteer Fire Department made the recovery on a jet ski and brought Denton, who at the time reportedly still had a pulse, to the lifeboat, according to Miterko. "When he was brought onto the boat, our crew found a pulse and started performing CPR," Miterko said, noting CPR continued until Denton was put into the custody of Mendocino Coast District Hospital paramedics, who later pron
ounced him dead. Denton's wife was with him at the time of the incident, according to Mendocino County Sheriff's Deputy Coroner.

There will be workshops on Using Filters, Table Top Setups, Printing and a review of the rules for competitions.
So bring your camera equipment.

January 9th
There will be a Board Meeting at the church. All members are welcome!
The meeting starts at 7:30 PM. We will review the first half of the year and plan programs, workshops, and field trips for the rest of the year.

All ideas are welcome. If you cannot attend, but would like to share an idea, please call a board member to share.

January 18Th
This is our monthly competition. Remember your photos must be submitted by 7:45pm.

It is available to licensed users of either the Photoshop CS2 (full, upgrade, and education), Adobe Creative Suite 2.x Standard or Premium (full, upgrade, and education), Adobe Production Studio Standard and Premium (full, upgrade, and education), Adobe Video Bundle (full, upgrade, and education) or Adobe Web Bundle (full, upgrade, and education). You will need to provide your Photoshop CS2, Creative Suite, Production Studio or Bundle serial number in order to get a Photoshop CS3 beta serial number, enabling you to activate the Photoshop beta and use it beyond the 2-day grace period.

Scott Smith is seeking a couple of strong, service minded volunteers to help set up (and take down) tables and chairs for our digital photography seminar. Anyone interested in attending this seminar must volunteer to serve on a committee - remember that the seminar is not for club members but rather people in the community.

It’s Dues Time
